Stock Tacomas fit 265/70R16 or 265/65R17 tires (about 31 inches). With a 2 to 3-inch lift, you can fit 33-inch tires — the most popular sizes being 285/75R16 and 285/70R17. These sizes typically require minor fender liner trimming and aftermarket upper control arms for proper alignment. Some owners fit 285/75R17 (33.8 inches) with a 3-inch lift and cab mount chop. We do not recommend 35-inch tires on Tacomas without significant body modification. Should I upgrade my TRD Pro suspension or go aftermarket?
The TRD Pro comes with excellent factory Fox internal bypass shocks and TRD-tuned springs that provide about 1 inch of lift over a stock SR5. For most owners, the factory TRD Pro suspension is great for moderate off-road use. However, if you want more lift height (2.5 to 3 inches), longer suspension travel, or adjustable damping, aftermarket options like Icon Stage 2-4, King, or Fox 2.5 factory race series will outperform the stock TRD Pro setup. Many TRD Pro owners at our Kansas City shop upgrade to Icon or King shocks after 30,000-50,000 miles when the factory Fox shocks begin to fade. We can also rebuild and re-valve your factory Fox shocks as a more affordable option.
