Truck Suspension Upgrades near Overland Park, KS
American Fusion Wheels is a full-service suspension shop for trucks, 4x4s, and SUVs, located in Shawnee, KS — about 10 minutes from Overland Park via I-435 or Shawnee Mission Parkway. We handle everything from basic shock replacements to complete suspension overhauls, and we serve Overland Park truck owners from the 119th Street corridor, Metcalf Ave, Nall Ave, Antioch Rd, and everywhere in between.
Suspension is not a one-size-fits-all situation. A truck that commutes on I-435 from Overland Park every day needs a different setup than a truck that tows a boat to Milford Lake on weekends or a 4x4 that hits trails at Tuttle Creek. That is why we carry parts from multiple manufacturers and take the time to understand how you use your vehicle before recommending anything.
Suspension Services We Offer
Lift Kits — Spacer lifts, spring lift kits, coilover conversions, and long-arm kits from 2 inches to 6 inches and beyond. We install kits from Rough Country, BDS, Fabtech, Zone Offroad, Superlift, ReadyLift, and more. Every lift kit installation includes alignment — critical for Overland Park owners driving I-435 and I-35 daily.
Leveling Kits — Strut spacers, coil spacers, torsion keys, and adjustable leveling systems that raise the front of your truck to eliminate factory rake. Leveling kits are the most affordable suspension upgrade and open the door to fitting 33-inch tires on most trucks. Popular with Overland Park truck owners who want a level stance without a full lift.
Coilover Upgrades — Performance coilover systems from Fox, Bilstein, King, and Icon Vehicle Dynamics. Coilovers replace your factory shocks and springs with a single adjustable unit that lets you control ride height and damping. The best upgrade for trucks that need to perform well on the highway, on dirt roads, and under load.
Shock Replacements — Factory shocks wear out over time. We replace them with direct-fit upgrades from Fox, Bilstein, Rancho, and Rough Country. A fresh set of quality shocks transforms the ride — better handling, better braking, less body roll, and a more planted feel on I-435 expansion joints and the rough roads around the Overland Park area.
Leaf Springs and Add-a-Leafs — Rear leaf springs sag over time, especially on trucks that haul regularly. We replace full leaf spring packs and install add-a-leaf kits to restore ride height and load capacity. An add-a-leaf is one of the most affordable ways to firm up a sagging rear end on trucks driven by Overland Park owners who tow boats, trailers, and campers.
Traction Bars — Essential for lifted 4x4 trucks with leaf spring rear suspensions. Traction bars prevent axle wrap during hard acceleration and heavy towing, protecting your U-joints and driveline. We install traction bars from BDS, Rough Country, and other leading manufacturers.
Sway Bars and Links — Upgraded sway bars and heavy-duty sway bar links reduce body roll in turns and improve stability, especially on lifted trucks and trucks that tow. If your truck feels loose in sweeping highway curves on I-435 or sways when changing lanes with a trailer on I-35, upgraded sway bars make a real difference.
Air Bag Helper Springs — Firestone Ride-Rite and Air Lift systems mount alongside your rear suspension to support heavy loads. Air bags level out the rear of your truck when towing or hauling, reduce trailer sway, and improve braking. We install both manual and automatic leveling systems for any truck or SUV driven in the Overland Park area.
Alignment Included with Every Suspension Job
Any time we change ride height or suspension geometry on a truck, alignment is included. We do not bill it as a separate appointment or an add-on charge. Our Hunter alignment rack handles trucks and 4x4s of every size, and we set toe, camber, and caster to factory or performance specs depending on your setup. Overland Park truck owners who commute daily on I-435 and I-35 need their alignment tight — worn suspension combined with misalignment eats tires and creates handling problems that get worse over time. When you leave our shop after a suspension upgrade, your truck tracks straight and your tires wear evenly.
Brands We Carry
We are not locked into one brand. We stock and install suspension parts from Fox Racing Shox, Bilstein, King Shocks, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Rough Country, BDS Suspension, Rancho, Firestone, Air Lift, Zone Offroad, Fabtech, Superlift, ReadyLift, and Daystar. If you have a brand preference, we will get it. If you are not sure, we will recommend the best option for your truck, your driving, and your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about truck suspension upgrades near overland park ks at American Fusion Wheels.
What truck suspension upgrades do you offer near Overland Park?
We offer the full spectrum of truck suspension work for Overland Park owners. That includes leveling kits, spacer lifts, spring lift kits, coilover conversions, long-arm kits, shock upgrades, leaf spring replacement, add-a-leaf kits, traction bars, upgraded sway bars, and air bag helper springs. Whether you need a simple shock swap or a complete suspension overhaul on your 4x4 truck, we handle it at our Shawnee shop — about 10 minutes from Overland Park.
How much do truck suspension upgrades cost near Overland Park?
Pricing depends on the scope of work. A pair of replacement shocks runs $200 to $600 installed. Leveling kits are $150 to $400 installed. Lift kits range from $800 to $6,000 or more depending on the type. Coilover upgrades from Fox or Bilstein typically run $1,500 to $4,000 installed. Air bag helper springs are $300 to $800 installed. We give straight quotes with no surprises — call 913-291-2027 or stop by for a price on your specific vehicle.
What are the signs my truck needs new shocks or suspension work?
Common signs include a bouncy or floaty ride, excessive body roll in turns, nose dive when braking, rear squat when accelerating or towing, uneven tire wear, clunking or banging noises over bumps, and visible fluid leaking from shock absorbers. If your truck has more than 60,000 to 80,000 miles on the original shocks, they are likely past their prime even if you do not notice obvious symptoms. Worn shocks affect braking distance, handling, and tire life — especially noticeable on I-435 and I-35 through the Overland Park area.
What is the difference between shocks and coilovers?
Standard shocks are dampers that control how fast your suspension compresses and rebounds. They work with your existing springs and are a direct replacement for factory units. Coilovers combine a shock absorber and a coil spring into a single adjustable unit. Coilovers let you adjust ride height, and higher-end units from Fox, Bilstein, King, and Icon also offer adjustable damping. Coilovers are a performance upgrade over factory shocks and springs — better ride quality, better handling, and the ability to tune the setup for your driving around Overland Park and beyond.
Do you install air bags for towing near Overland Park?
Yes. Firestone Ride-Rite and Air Lift are the two most popular air bag systems we install for Overland Park truck owners. Air bags mount inside or alongside your rear leaf springs or coil springs and inflate with a compressor or manual valve to support heavy loads. They are excellent for trucks that tow trailers, haul heavy bed loads, or carry truck campers. Air bags level out the rear under load, reduce sway on I-435 and I-35, and improve braking. We install both manual and automatic leveling systems.
What are traction bars and do I need them?
Traction bars prevent axle wrap — the twisting motion your rear axle makes under hard acceleration or heavy towing. This is especially common on 4x4 trucks with lift kits and leaf spring rear suspensions. Symptoms of axle wrap include a shuddering or hopping sensation when accelerating from a stop and premature wear on U-joints and driveline components. If you have a lifted truck or tow frequently from the Overland Park area, traction bars are a smart addition. We install traction bars from BDS, Rough Country, and other manufacturers.
Can you upgrade my truck's leaf springs?
Absolutely. We replace worn or sagging leaf springs with new OEM-spec or upgraded aftermarket leaf spring packs. We also install add-a-leaf kits, which add an extra leaf to your existing spring pack to restore ride height and increase load capacity without replacing the full assembly. Add-a-leaf kits are a popular and affordable option for trucks that are starting to sag in the rear from age or regular hauling — a common issue for Overland Park truck owners who tow boats or trailers on weekends.
How long does a truck suspension upgrade take?
It depends on the job. A shock replacement takes 2 to 3 hours. Leveling kits take 2 to 3 hours including alignment. Lift kit installations take a full day or more. Coilover swaps typically take 4 to 6 hours. Air bag installations are usually half a day. We will give you a timeline when you schedule so you can plan accordingly. Overland Park customers often drop off on the way to work via I-435 or Nall Ave and pick up the same day.

Open in Google Maps →"Got Bilstein 5100 shocks installed on my 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie at American Fusion Wheels. The factory suspension was soft and the truck nose-dived under braking on I-435 during my OP commute. The Bilstein 5100s are a night-and-day improvement — the truck feels planted, does not lean in corners nearly as much, and the nose dive under braking is almost completely gone. They also used the adjustable front height setting to level the truck about an inch and a half which fixed the factory rake. Total for all four shocks installed with the leveling adjustment and alignment was about $1,200. The drive from my place near 143rd and Metcalf was about 12 minutes on I-435. These guys know truck suspension and they gave honest advice — they told me the Bilsteins would be a bigger improvement than a more expensive coilover kit for my use case. Saved me money and the result is exactly what I needed."— Mike P. 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie
