Short answer: a cold air intake alone adds minimal power. But paired with a cat-back exhaust, the combination works better than either mod alone.

What a Cold Air Intake Does
It replaces your restrictive factory airbox with a larger, less restrictive filter that draws cooler air from outside the engine bay. Cooler air is denser, which means more oxygen for combustion. Real-world gains: 5-15 HP on naturally aspirated engines, potentially more on turbo vehicles.
Why Exhaust + Intake Works Better Together
Your engine is an air pump. A cold air intake improves airflow IN. An exhaust improves airflow OUT. Together, the engine breathes more freely on both sides, resulting in better throttle response, slightly more power, and a much better sound.
Is It Worth It?
For sound and throttle response: absolutely. For raw horsepower: modest gains. For the driving experience: huge improvement. Most customers who get an exhaust at AFW add an intake within 6 months.
